Well Virtual Book Club is one of those crazy ideas that just came into my head one day. I was listening to NPR one night, and Will Schwalbe, the author of "The End of Your Life Book Club", was talking about his book. The book started off with how his mother was dying of pancreatic cancer, and they decided to form a 2 people book club just of themselves. The book club has brought them closer, and over the next two years, the books they are reading brought on meaningful conversation. They were able to share their passion of reading with each other.
Then I thought, well I want to form a book club just like that. Unfortunately, most are my close friends are not enthusiastic about reading. Plus, it's hard to interest them with what I like to read. Anyway, so I thought I would post on Craigslist, and maybe one or two people would like to form a little club with me over the virtual world. My thought was simple, it wouldn't be hard to correspond to 1-2 people, and we can just exchange emails to do a virtual book club.
Turns out, I got more way more response than I ever expected. It's quite a huge turn out that I just can't do 1 on 1 interaction with every email I receive. Then I thought well a blog would probably serve as a sufficient platform to connect with everyone. Then a friend of the virtual world, D.M, contacted me, and suggested that starting a forum may be better than a blog to do discussion. Then we decided to set up the forum. Well this is as far as it get for our newly formed Virtual Book Club. We've decided on our first book, and we'll be starting our discussion next week.
If anyone out there have heard this message, I want to invite you to join us into the reading world. I don't know how Virtual Book Club will turn out, but I hope we will connect with some other voracious readers out there.
Read on, my friends!
Nancy
