Book of the Month and Other News

Hi all,

I know it's been a couple more days than I have promised, and instead of the democratic process, I went ahead to choose the book of the month. Before I say anymore about my book choice, I would like to announce few other important news.

A friend of virtual world has contacted me and suggest to me that a forum would be better to do discussion than a blog, and I agree. He has created the forum for us, where we have decided that's where mainly where the discussion will take place.

Here is the link to the Virtual Book Club forum: virtualbookclub.freeforums.net/

I have taken on the alias of Fortune Cookie considering I'm Taiwanese. Though despite the stereotypical belief, fortune cookies were not created by Chinese people.

No worries about this blog, I will do my best to keep the blog rolling. I think I will periodically update the blog with books and related stuff. I will also post news, announcement and other interested things related to our book club on this blog. If there are any major announcement, you'll likely to see it both on the forum and the blog.

As for the major announcement, our first book of the month!! Drum roll please,
"Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell.

If it sounds familiar to you, it's probably because it will be in the theater soon. Cloud Atlas was published in 2004. From my understanding before reading the book, Cloud Atlas consist of 6 stories that ranges from different time period, and somehow the stories intertangle with each others. It is claimed to be an unfilmable book.Well I can't wait to find out what's going on. If you are still interested, then come join us! I just pick up my copy yesterday! I have also posted a tentative reading schedule on the forum.

I can't wait to see you on the other side (i.e. forum)!!

The Start of an Unusal Book Club

Hi virtual friends,

I want to thank you all again for all your emails of interest; I really didn't expect to receive this many emails. I thought I will be lucky if I get one of two, and unexpectedly I actually got quite a few emails! I really appreciate the suggestions that some people have made and recommend we should read together, but realistic speaking, I can't read a different book with every person I receive email from. I thought starting a blog may be the best way to connect with everyone on one platform.

I don't know where this idea of mine is leading to, it could go horribly wrong or quite well for all I know; I am taking this one small step at a time. If you would like to continue this book-tastic journey with me, and discuss books with people of common interests, then continue follow me to the next blog! I will be listing a few books, and let's take a vote!

I hope we can decide our first book smoothly. After all, I never interact with group of people who I never met in person before. Let's do this together!
